Shark Point & Anemone Reef

Scuba Diving Ko Lanta, Thailand with PADI Dive Center - Ocean DiversShark Point and Anemone Reef are normally dived in conjunction with the King Cruiser wreck due to their very close proximity. We normally select the site based upon group preference, experience and prevailing conditions.

Shark Point is an excellent place for seeing leopard sharks and a variety of smaller rays, including marble rays and blue-spotted stingrays. It is relatively large site and can be dived even in moderate to strong currents, however it is less suitable if the visibility is low. Shark Point is actually made up of 3 pinnacles that are located close together. The sand between pinnacles 1 and 2 is a good place to spot rays and cuttlefish are often found in this area too.

Pinnacle 2 normally has a few leopard sharks swimming around. These beautiful animals are a nice sight when resting on the sand; however it is when you see them swimming that you truly appreciate how graceful they are. Pinnacle 3 is not often dived and is the reserve of the more advanced divers, due to the deeper depth leading to shorter dives. However for those willing to make a shorter dive they will experience large shoals of fish, the occasional octopus and for the very lucky it is one of the few places to see white tip reef sharks in the area.

Ocean Divers - Scuba Diving Koh Lanta, Thailand. PADI Dive CenterAnemone Reef is a small pinnacle which is now 3 metres deeper than it was before the King Cruiser ferry struck it and sheared off the very top of the rock. Due to the size and shape of Anemone Reef it is not recommended to dive it in a strong current as there are few places to hide from the force of the water and your team will end up “trapped” on one side of the rock.

The pinnacle is covered in soft coral and anemones (hence the name) and is absolute treasure trove of macro life. For photographers and those that like to find critters this is an absolute dream. Anemone Reef is home to 5 different species of moray eel and at least 6 different species of shrimp. Nudibranchs are common here as well. Due to the nature of the life at Anemone Reef, this dive is suitable even if the visibility is not great. When looking for small things you have to get close anyway!
